Although by no means necessary, renting a boat for a day or two will add a new dimension to your holiday. There are plenty of local boat rental places nearby (no experience necessary, full instruction given)
From your dock explore the miles of canals and waterways of Charlotte Harbour and Punta Gorda, or for the more adventurous, head down for the islands of the Gulf, (dolphins guaranteed) picnic on deserted beaches, visit restaurants only accessible by boat such as Cabbage Key, Boca Grande, Captiva and Sanibel.
